TOPIC: If your Food pens dont work on cake pops

If your Food pens dont work on cake pops 7 years, 6 months ago #1

I have found often the food pens dont work on chocolate well, if at all. To solve this frustration I just mix a little petal dust with a drop of rose spirit and paint on using a fine paintbrush, this method gives vivid colours & dark black for definition , this method also works well with shimmer dusts for a metallic look

Thanks Deb! GREAT ideas!! We've decided to do a test on the different pen brands, and would like to include your method as well. May I ask where you get your rose spirit? Thanks!

I get my Rose spirit at the C & E Catering co , Ive put link above, Hope it works?? But that page doesnt show a lot of what they have in regards to decorating etc so just click on the FB link on the home page to go to the facebook page , where you can ask any questions etc, They also post new items as they arrive there too.
Im sure any alcohol based (edible) spirit would work just as well as rose spirit if your somewhere in the world rose spirit is hard to get.....hope this helps.

I've had good luck with Americolor Gourmet Food Writers but when I need colors like white or gold or silver I also use petal dust or luster dust but I mix it with vodka.

That's an interesting trick! I however use Wilton cookie icing anytime I need to write or draw anything. It's inexpensive and keeps very well. Just paint directly onto an unrefridgerated pop with a fine tip paint brush, works great!!!!
